Walk the Line . Why, pray tell me, do people love that movie?
I own it. I liked it in theaters and the person I was with in a store hadn’t seen it, and wanted to see it, so I bought it. I am a fan of Mr. Cash for a myriad of reasons, not the least of which being that even posthumously he still has a ton of recordings being released that rock in a way that redefines his unique niche in musical history.
And then there is this movie… Yeah… walk the line… It is not a horrible movie. I still look at it with admiration for a fine film. And as accurate as points and parts were, it still does not come close to being as half crazy and wild as the real story of what and how it all happened. But, that, is not the reason that I do not like watching it. The pacing of the movie is slow, with really only a star recorded sound track as the means by which we are supposed to have transition from one part of the movie to the next. Johnny’s music was slow and even tempered, paced, and sung. Which means that you even up with a slow, flat, steady, musical movie. Maybe they should have shown more trees get blown up? Or explored one of the thousands of interesting personal relationships the man in black had with the amazing people of his time. The man knew -everyone- who was anyone during that time, and not usually because he wanted to hang with them, but because they wanted to genuinely hang with him.
The reason I still like this movie? It shows his relationship with the love of his life. A true world, real life, romance, that Hollywood couldn’t have written.
I am only probably sick of this movie because everyone who looks through my movies to pick something to watch over the last few years has chosen it, and thus I have seen the movie 5+ times.
Site:
A late post for Saturday, but a post none the less.
I have changed up even more in this wonderful base template that I started with. The top of the blog no longer shows categories, but pages in the site. The categories can still be sorted by clicking them at the beginning of a post, and I really do not even feel that many people use them, so it is not a huge loss.
I have also changed various things the deal with the way things are posted and organized on the site. You will notice that as of this post there is a “Currently Reading,” section on the right side of the page. I may edit that, as well as a few other small layout changes in the days to come, and even then nothing is permanent.
Sadly there is nothing to knock off the list.
Things still to work out -
- Organize and allow the registration of users.
- Attempt to understand the comments structure and scheme of wordpress better.
- Write and organize a few more page sections for this site.
- Sort and assemble a solid media display option.
